France, (AN24)– Manchester United and Spain goalkeeper David De Gea has been sent home from Spain’s Euro 2016 squad over his role in a Spanish rape case, the Independent reports.

The United shot stopper was implicated in a Spanish rape case by a protected witness in a Spanish court case, along with his former Spain Under-21 teammate Iker Muniain of Athletic Bilbao.

While de Gea is not accused of having directly participated in the abuse, he is accused of having arranged the encounter.

The report also says that Torbe raped another minor and recorded it for the purpose of sending it to Spanish footballers – including de Gea.

Meanwhile, Spanish newspaper
El Diario report that the witness was giving evidence in the investigation against Ignacio Fernandez Allende (aka Torbe), jailed since last April on charges of human trafficking for sexual exploitation, sexual assault, child pornography, related to prostitution, extortion and money laundering.

It would be recalled that De Gea was named in Vicente del Bosque’s 23-man Spain squad for the European Championship kicking off in France today, but a replacement will now be called up unless the United keeper is reinstated.
